Business Exit Planning Concepts


This session will explore business exit planning as applicable to professional advisors, including the exit planning process. Join John Leonetti, author of Exiting Your Business, Protecting Your Wealth, as he discusses characteristics of business owners relevant to exit planning, tools and techniques, emerging control practices, and the implications for accounting and financial institutions.

 

Industry Overview – There are three key components to a successful exit option:

  1. readiness of the seller,
  2. the value of the business and
  3. market availability.

 

We will discuss what the industry looks like, provide an overview of recent transactions, and what buyers are looking for, Value, Value Gap & Taxes.

 

An overlooked part of the process is the coordination of the personal wealth management needs of the business owner with their business planning goals. A team approach provides a more valuable and successful outcome for the business owner.

 

Exit Options – We will discuss the following exit options: sale, recapitalization, ESOP and MBO.

 

For each transaction we will review the impactful questions to ask the seller and what you should be looking for either in the structure, support and/or history of the business to determine which exit option is most appropriate for the exiting business owner.

 

Participants will learn how to:

  • Recognize characteristics of business owners who would benefit from an exit plan
  • Identify key factors in establishing a viable exit option
  • Identify tools and techniques used in exit planning

In order to be awarded the full credit hours, you must be present for the full session, registering your attendance and departure on the attendance sheets at the registration desk.
